1 dead, 2 others hospitalized after Key Largo boat crash

KEY WEST — One person is dead and two others were hospitalized following a boat crash near Key Largo on Saturday morning.
Just after 10:25 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was called out to a boating accident involving multiple people near Card Sound, just northwest of North Carson Road and Pumpkin Key. Multiple MDFR fire boats, two Air Rescue helicopters, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and U.S. Coast Guard crews responded to the scene.
MDFR Air Rescue rescued two people and took them to Jackson South Trauma Center. USCG divers were also deployed and pulled a third person from the water. One of the three died from their injuries, the FWC told CBS News Miami.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 34-foot Nor-Tech vessel with three occupants was traveling south when a “sudden turn” threw all of them overboard, the FWC said. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
This is the second boating accident in the Florida Keys that has happened in a matter of days after a Hialeah woman was killed and five others were ejected from a boat involved in a powerboat race on Thursday afternoon.
